Taxpayers believe that traveling a long distance to work may be deductible.  Commuting cost are nondeductible regardless of the miles driven.  Commuting is considered a personal expense.  Code section 262 addresses the issue.  Also, refer to (Coombs, 67 TC 426 (1976)).  Should you believe your circumstances are different by all means keep a daily record and make comments for the reason you believe the commute deductible.
